This is not a stand-alone book, in that it is the first in a series. At the bottom of the book description, it states there is a book 2. Anyway, that aside, I found this well-written book to be engaging and intense. The action is non-stop. After a nuclear blast, two step-brothers go right into the destruction to find their sister along with her husband and small child. Danger is all around them as they struggle with near-insurmountable obstacles. I tried reading this at night but found myself staying awake to see what happens next. It's that good. Very suspenseful. I could picture the scenes in my mind like watching an internal movie. In fact, I think it would make an excellent movie. It does close on a bit of a cliffhanger but still it's a big story in and of itself.Product details

Reading this book I have been through every emotion possible, but My over active imagination has taken over and I could see this book being a PlayStation game of sorts. It tells of a nuclear bomb being set of on the cost of the USA. And how two brothers set out to find their sister her husband and baby. However they find its not going to be easy as the challenges to get to there sister bank up against them will they find her and her family? Or will they be too late.... A must read with a cliff hanger grrr next book here I come xxx
I love books about nuclear bombs and EMPs and post apocalyptic life, but thought they had all covered the same old stuff. Until now. I found this book through Twitter, and have to say, I couldn't put it down. I've bought the second book already. I am not a huge fan of cliffhangers, but the author gives you a glimpse into the next book at the end.
The imagery of a sea of rats coming up out of the subway station, the pulsating ball of gas flames from a ruptured gas main, the sense of what fallout looks and feels like, all were well written. The storyline was exciting. I suspect the author did a lot of research or is already knowledgeable about helicopters, and how to lift a tractor trailer by a hook, because the details were fascinating to one who doesn't know. I'm a doctor, and he had the medical facts right, something that irks me when authors are careless.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly, and can't wait to read more from this author.

Cynthia is in the middle of the blast zone, along with her husband and baby. Franklin and Everon will do what ever they need to do to try and get back into the city, while the military tries to keep them out, to rescue their sister and her family.
This book is full of wonderful, kind, compassionate characters as well as the selfish, arrogant and ignorant type.
I think a lot of us think this is the way things would play out if someone had the audacity to attack us. The title says it all, a total Loss of Reason.
I was very happy that Mr. Maxwell gave us a peek at the second book, which I will read! I am not sure how many books will be in this series, but I would definitely recommend it!

This is Armageddon for adult readers, not wunderkind surviving in a hostile world.The characters are ones I want to follow. They act like real human beings, especially those in secondary roles.The heroes are bigger than life but in a comforting way. The villains are essentially anonymous and their desire to blow up civilization in the US is as inexplicable as 9/11, so current and relevant. But it really is the brothers I want to see in action, take charge problem solvers facing chaos.Not quite five star because it is more Tom Clancy (with bravura touches) than Hilary Mantell, who gets the reader right inside the action.
Do you want to read a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and glue to its pages? Then you need to read Loss of Reason by Miles A. Maxwell. This is truly a page turner.
The author has developed a tale that is fast paced and full of intrigue. I really liked the adventure and action in this story. The storyline is full of plot twist and turns, but at the same time is very believable and easy to follow. I found I could not put this book down.
Miles A. Maxwell has created a cast of character that make the book come alive. I found it easy to identify with them and get behind the lead characters.
I really enjoyed Loss of Reason by Miles A. Maxwell and highly recommend this book to all readers. I like it so much I have already bought the follow up novel.
Interesting how the author deals with a bomb exploding in NYC.. The trials and tribulations of a family trying to come together to save their sister mixed against their responsibility to save lives. A real cliffhanger!
When I had just finished it I said an expletive because it was not finished. I am buying the next book, because these people became real to me and I just have to find out how they survive, and if they do. I will not be a spoiler, but all this is possible and all too real in most of our minds and nightmares. Everon and Franklin have only one agenda, and that is to find and save their Sister Cynthia, her husband and baby girl. I don't know how the owl figures in, but it will be fascinating to find out. I am a skim reader if there is tons of description, but that did not happen in this book. These people are so real, I can still picture them in my mind. Make sure you have time to read in one setting, because it will draw you back so hard you will be hurrying home to get comfortable to climb back into one of the airplanes or the crappy helicopter to race away from the hell a diseased mind created and let loose on innocent people.
